What is WIC? |
|
WIC stands for Women, Infant, &
Children Food Supplement Program. It is a
federally funded nutrition supplemental program that is
open for qualifying pregnant, lactating, and post-partum
women, infants from birth to one year, and children
through age five.

What does WIC provide? |
WIC provides vouchers for healthy
foods. Foods that can be purchased with WIC
vouchers are as follows: |
|
|
- Fruit Juice
- Dried Beans or Peas
- Peanut Butter
- Iron fortified infant formulas
|
|
| In addition to vouchers for healthy
food, WIC provides: |
- Free Nutrition Counseling
- Breastfeeding support and
information
- Health and immunization screenings
- Recipes and educational materials
- Referrals to community services
|

How do I know if I qualify for WIC? |
Many people are not aware that they qualify
for WIC benefits. The qualifications
are listed below. Did you know you
will qualify for WIC if you...? |
- Live in New York State
- Are a woman whom is pregnant,
breastfeeding, or six months from giving
birth
- Are an infant birth to 1 year
- Are a child 1 - 5 years
- Are at nutritional risk
- Are on Medicaid, in Head Start, have
Food Stamps, or Free Lunch Program
- Meet the household

Here's What to Do...& What to Expect |
- Call us at (315) 253-1406
- Answer questions from qualified
WIC staff which will determine your
eligibility
| Questions will pertain
to: |
- who is applying
- name, address, phone
number
- names and birthdates
of household members
- household size
- source of income
- your house hold
income
- medical information,
such as primary care
physician, obstetrician,
due date, health
insurance, immunization
records, breast feeding
or infant formula type
|
|
- Fill out paper work our office sends
to you
- Get an appointment date, time, and
place
- At the time of your appointment, you
will return necessary paperwork along
with the following documents:
- most recent pay stubs
for proof of income (minimum
of one month)
- proof of assistance
programs such as Medicaid,
Food Stamps, Head Start, or
Free Lunch Program
- proof of residence, such
as a billing statement
stating your current address
(not a post office box
number)
- proof of your
identification, such
as your driver's license, birth
certificate, social security
card
- immunization records for
infants and children
|
- After your documentation has been
reviewed, and you are determined eligible to
receive WIC benefits, you will then be
"certified"
NOTE: The person that will
be certified, MUST be present at the
scheduled appointment.
- Leave clinic with WIC benefits, next
appointment, and nutrition education.

Once Certified... |
|
You receive your benefits once a month,
therefore, you or your proxy will need to pick up
your WIC benefits at one of the following
scheduled clinics: |

Auburn: 157 Genesee Street in
the Historical Post Office is open daily
from the hours of 8:30a.m. - 4:30p.m. by
appointment ONLY.

Cato: St. Patrick's Church
located on Mechanic Street is always the
first Tuesday of every month from the hours
of 9:30a.m. - 2:00p.m. by appointment
ONLY.
|

Moravia: St. Matthew's
Episcopal Church located on Church Street is
always the first Thursday of every month
from the hours of 9:30a.m. - 2:00p.m. by
appointment ONLY.

The
Night Clinic: 157 Genesee
Street in the Historical Post Office is the
third Thursday of every month from the hours
of 10:30a.m. - 6:30p.m. by appointment ONLY.
